For more portability, you might want to look at getting the Makita 4-3/8 planer. This is a small device that has a compact 7 amp motor. The planer is light because it’s crafted out of aluminum and it has a ball bearing construction so the devices life span is longer.

The last electric planer offered in the Makita line up is the 3-1/4 Makita planer. This is a very powerful planer but one that’s also lightweight. The motor is 7.5 amps and features 16000 RPM’s. The weight is only 7lbs. For maximum comfort, the handle has been designed to fit the human shape of a hand.
