Mountain Climbing Equipment
62There is no thrill greater than that of mountain climbing. Maybe sky diving gives a greater thrill, but how hard to you actually work to get up that high? Mountain climbing takes a monumental effort – and all that effort is your own. It goes to say that rock climbing is incredibly exhilarating – rewarding both physically and mentally. When you climb, you experience a broad range of human emotions: excitement, fear, joy, and peace. You are forced to conquer your fear of falling and as a result, experience something profound. Mountain climbing is a dangerous sport, however. To mountain climb, you need the best mountain climbing equipment to keep you safe.
It goes without saying that safety should be your highest priority. While there may be many videos out there of an amazing free climber, free climbing is one of the most dangerous sports ever. It’s completely idiotic to risk your life by foregoing mountain climbing equipment. The term death wish adequately applies to free climbing. Mountain climbing is, on the other hand, an experience that anyone and everyone can pursue. To rock climb, you are going to need the right rock climbing equipment, however.

The first thing you are going to want to look at is getting a harness that correctly fits. Make sure the harness fits around your thighs and your waist. The fit should be snug. If it doesn’t fit snugly, when you fall you could break your back or even fall from the harness! The next climbing equipment piece you need is a flexible and sturdy mountain climbing rope. Note that static lines are only for emergencies and repelling down walls. You should never use a static rope for regular rock climbing. Also, make sure never to use a stiff rope. You always want to have a bag of chalk attached to your waist as well.
Chalk eliminates the risk of slipping from your hand holds as you climb. When you climb, you will always have a partner – one who helps belay the rope to you. You always want an experienced belay person with you at all times. Remember, if you fall, your life is in their hands. One of the most important mountain climbing equipment pieces are the shoes. You need to make sure you are wearing a pair of quality rock climbing shoes. These shoes are meant for climbing and have a stiff, pointy sole for hard to reach foot holds. These shoes should be able to support your full weight just on the tip. These shoes must be extra tight and they are worn without any sort of socks. So when you do buy these shoes, make sure to get a pair 3 to 4 sizes smaller than your regular shoe size. The last thing you want to happen is to have your mountain climbing shoes fall off in the middle of a climb.
